Meadowlands Stadium gets 2014 Super Bowl

The nation’s premier sporting event is coming to its greatest metropolitan area – and the Giants’ extraordinary new home.NFL owners today (Tuesday) voted to deliver Super Bowl XLVIII to the New Meadowlands Stadium, the glittering 82,500-seat stadium where the Giants and Jets will begin playing their home games this season. The game, which will be played in February 2014, will be the first Super Bowl played in a cold-weather, outdoor venue.
The Giants and Jets co-sponsored the bid – officially entitled “Make Some History”- to bring the Super Bowl to the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area for the first time. The region was selected over competing bids from South Florida and Tampa to host the 2014 Super Bowl..

Supreme Court rules against NFL's exclusive deals

"Although NFL teams have common interests such as promoting the NFL brand, they are still separate, profit-maximizing entiries." ruled the United States Supreme Court when they halted the National Football League's move to gain greater control over its marketing and product deals. The Supreme stated the sports league is made up of 32 separate teams rather than a single entity in a suprisi9ng 9-0 decision that stopped the league's effort to gain an total grip on its control of everything from marketing deals to labor pacts than actual financial damages.
At issue was a lawsuit by American Needle, Inc., a cap maker in Illinois, against the NFL in 2004 after the league in 2001 signed an exclusive deal with Reebock giving the company exclusive rights to manufacture and market the league's caps and apparel for $250 million over 10 years. American Needle sued on the grounds that the exclusive agreem, ent was anti-competitive and the Supreme Court ruled that the NFL was subject to federal antitrust laws.

USAPFL launches Triple A minor league in 2011

The USA Professional Football League (USAPFL) will begin play in 2011 with the first of its Division 2 franchises competing in the Northeast Professional Football League (NEPFL). Expansion will follow in 2012 with the addition of the Southeast Professional Football League (SEPFL) and the Mid-West Professional League (MWPFL). Completing the national scope of the USAPFL in 2013 will be the Southwest Professional Football League (SWPFL) and Northwest Professional Football League (NWPFL)
An agreement has been reached with USA Football Network that its USA Pro Football Network will produce play-by-play web casts of the NEPFL in 2011 that will not only be available for viewing on the Internet but also cable and television systems.
Dexter Girven, the currrent Commissioner of the BNEFF, has been named the Chairman of the Board of Advisers of the USAPFL, a group that consists of former NFL players as well as league officials of current and former professional football leagues and franchises plus registered agents.
The USAPFL will play a 12-game schedule from August to November plus a three-team playoff with the regular-season champion receiving a first-round bye. The USAPFL will provide low-cost, minor league professional football action that does not intend to compete with, but will compliment the National Football League (NFL). The prototype franchise will utilize a non-NFL venue possessing state-of-the-art locker rooms and press box facilities with seating capacities ranging from 8,000 to 25,000.
Similar to the structure of Major League Baseball (MLB) and its minor leagues, the USAPFL plans a three-level format that will be the equivalent of Minor League Baseball's Triple A, Double A and Single A league structiure. This will provide venues for quality players who did not make NFL, CFL, AFL rosters or taxi-squads to continue their maturation process. The USAPFL will develop players under actual game conditions who will be prepared to replace injured or under-performing players at the major league levels.
